The Forest fire season officially ended on March 31, and the good news is that there wasn´t any fire this year in Torres del Paine National Park.
Federico Hechenleitner, sectional head of the most important park in Patagonia, Las Torres del Paine, said that there was a positive balance and that the preventive measures adopted were very effective.
“The worst is over, and from now on the conditions to develop a fire are less favorable, the temperatures are lower, the humidity has increased. But anyway, we will remain attentive, because we can´t feel totally secure…
At the beginning of March the helicopter rented by Conaf was returned, it was very useful for some jobs inside the park, even though it wasn´t used for the purpose it was rented.
It looks like all the preventive measures implemented this season, like the new regulation that the tourists must obey, avoided any emergency event, especially a fire.
The sectional head of the Torres del Paine National Park said that the most important thing to do is create consciousness among the tourists “ We have many measures so that a fire does not occur inside the park, we have more support, but a fire can happen any time and with the right conditions it can become a disaster, even if we have many people and resources. The most important issue is that visitors respect de regulations and the preventive measures”
