The main attraction of El Chalten are the giant granite mountains, led by the Fitz Roy (3405mts above sea level), Cerro Torre (3128 masl), points Saint Exupéry (2558mts.) Poincenot (3002mts.), Mermoz (2732mts.) and Guillaumet (2574 mts.). From this mountain mass there glaciers get detached which in turn give birth to lagoons, forming a string of attractions that can be visited and known step by step through several trekking circuits.
Laguna del Desierto
It is an historical dispute between Argentina and Chile. This beautiful water reflection invites you to enjoy its beauty and tranquility in full contact with nature. To reach this oasis next to El Chalten, one must start from the city by RP 23 and go about 40 km.
It has a length of 80kms. It gets fed mainly on the glacier, that located in the western end of the lake. From this lake you get a nice view of Fitz Roy, Torre and Puntiagudo.
Mirador Los Condors
It’s the shortest walk from El Chalten, which reaches a natural viewpoint in Adela massif, Torre and Fitz Roy and the valley from the Rio de las Vueltas.
It has a great view of the Fitz Roy on a beautiful lake just two hours from El Chalten.
Base DeAgostini -Laguna Tower Camp
One of the classic walks of El Chalten that will lead you to the amazing Adela cord and Cerro Torre.
Base Poincenont- Laguna de los Tres camp
You reach the nearest site to Mount Fitz Roy and it is certainly the most famous of all walks.
Piedras Blancas Glacier
A walk that without great difficulties will place you in the imposing north face of Fitz Roy.
