Maritime Museum and Prison of Ushuaia
It is located in the building of the former Presidio of Ushuaia, where were housed the most dangerous criminals, and due to their recidivism, charging a sad fame. The building now houses four museums:
In winter, it is the ski resort where you can ski and ride on dog sleds in the snow. Its modern lifts and ski school has led it to be one of the best ski resorts in Argentina.
Tren al Fin del Mundo
The End of the World Train or Southern Fuegian Railway is the world’s first ecological train, which runs in an inaccessible part of Tierra del Fuego National Park. It is located 8 km west of the city of Ushuaia, from where there are trains to the station Tierra del Fuego National Park.
Martial Glacier is located 7 km from the city, on National Road 3. At the base of the Martial mountain range runs a ski run. To go up, you take the chairlift that goes about 1100 meters. Once at the top, you can see an overview of the Beagle channel and the Glacier.
Tierra del Fuego National Park
The park covers an area of 63,000 hectares, surrounded by waters of the Beagle Channel in its southern part. It presents rugged mountain ranges and it issurrounded by thick patagonian Andean forest.
In Ensenada Bay and Lapataia are born some trekking trails such as the coastal path that leads to the Black Lagoon.
The park is ideal for various activities such as trekking, boating, sailing in semi-rigid boats, mountain biking and camping in permitted areas or in the organized camping Lago Roca.
Beagle Channel, whose border is between Argentina and Chile, is a natural communication between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is the place where it is developed most of the scenic cruises, sailing in its calm waters, noting the steep Fueguina mountain range with its snowy peaks and lush forests , sighting various islands inhabited by colonies of sea lions, penguins, cormorants and other migratory species.
The most highlighted tours include a visit to Les Ecleireurs lighthouse, the sea lion colony, the island of birds and to Tierra del Fuego National Park’s beautiful Lapataia bay.
At the other hand, there is the penguin colony on the Hammer island combined with a visit to the Estancia Harberton, where British settlers established after the founding of the city and that still these days is owned by his descendants.
From the port of Ushuaia various cruises sail to Punta Arenas, Cape Horn and the Fuegian channels, visiting glaciers and penguin colonies and not forgetting that in summer , they go to Antarctica.
